Disability Payment Criteria
In order to receive disability payments, your child must meet the following requirements:
- The child must have a parent who is receiving disability payments from the SSA, or have a parent who is retired after paying into Social Security for the requisite length of time.
- The child must be unmarried.
- The child must be under the age of 18.
- The child must be under the age of 19 and enrolled in high school or below.
- The child may be over the age of 18 if suffering from a disability which was diagnosed before the age of 22.
The difficulty for many children is that their father does not acknowledge them as his children. A paternity test can remove virtually all doubt, and will probably be accepted by the courts as proof of paternity.
