- Make a list of all of the property you will be dividing during your divorce. You and your spouse can take turns “drafting” the items, one at a time, until you’ve divided all of the items on the list. You can work out trades for items you feel strongly about.
- If the first idea seems too time-consuming, you can make two lists of your joint possessions, each of comparable value. Each spouse chooses one list. You can then “trade” items back and forth until you have a list you’re satisfied with.
- For an even simpler version, you can choose items based on rooms. One spouse gets the items in the family room, one gets the items in the kitchen, etc. You can then trade items until you’re satisfied.
