Why Affairs Happen
According to a recent study, up to 65% of men and 55% of women will have had an extramarital affair by the time they turn 40. This does not mean that everyone will have an on-going affair but it means that 65% of men will cheat on their wives and 55% of women will cheat on their husbands before hitting forty.
The “class one” affair is the most basic type of affair. It basically consists of a one-night stand. Class two affairs start out as friendship and grow into something more. There is an emotional attachment in the affair and the two involved frequently share a task or passion. Class three addictions involve sexual addiction which is frequently accompanied by other types of addictions.
Despite being able to identify the types of affairs, there is no one reason why affairs do happen. There is not a fool-proof, one size fits all reason for why affairs occur. Many people site boredom as the reason for an affair but this, typically, isn’t the only reason or even the most significant reason.
Vulnerability is one of the most common reasons for an affair. A husband or wife that feels neglected at home (he works all the time or she does nothing but care for the kids or shop) may turn to other sources for companionship or something else. Emotional vulnerability or a fear of change can also play a significant role in causing an affair to happen.
Overall, there is no one reason why an affair occurs. It depends on the individual factors of the marriage from which one person strayed more than anything else.
