The westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge leading into San Francisco will be closed this weekend. This makes for a very tricky traffic situation, and drivers from the Bay Area should expect long delays and will have to find alternatives to their usual routes.
If you must go into the city, drivers are encouraged to use BART instead. According to Joe-the-KQED-Traffic-Voice, ”It’s always a gamble trying to guess what most everyone else is going to do and then do something else. Intuitively, it would seem the biggest jam could be on westbound 80 trying to get to southbound 880; second worst would be 680 to 580 to 238 to 880, which will put you on the same 880 jam to the San Mateo Bridge. Theoretically, 37 to 101 to the Golden Gate would avoid most of the direct impact from the Bay Bridge closure, but 37 is volatile, a lot of other people might use the Golden Gate Bridge, thinking the same thing, and you’d then face the usual jam through San Francisco.”
