Child support payments increase for mothers

Posted on May 14th, 2012 No Comments

According to a study released by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, more mothers in the United States are being held accountable for child support payments.

Even though, on average, men earn more than women, individual households may have seen a recent shift in financial stability. The participants that were surveyed were asked about the amount of child support cases involving mothers over the last three years. The majority of the responses indicated that a rise in women paying child support was apparent.

An increase in women paying their alimony to their ex-husbands was also seen in the results of the national survey. No exact reason was identified for this transition, but experts believe this trend could continue.

Custody battle continues for singer, Usher

Posted on May 7th, 2012 No Comments

Usher was back in court again last week dealing with a child custody issue. The singer and his former wife are currently sharing joint custody of their two young sons, but last year his ex-wife filed paperwork in order to remove Usher’s joint custody rights.

The custody issue is currently playing out in an Atlanta, Georgia courtroom where Usher is fighting for the right to continue seeing his sons. He is having to overcome several hurdles, because his former wife has made numerous accusations against him including being behind on child support payments, and abusing drugs in front of their children.

Usher has said that none of her statements hold any truth, and he is looking to earn more time with his sons, instead of having his joint custody arrangement reduced. The judge in their case determined that they would need to agree on a temporary custody arrangement through mediation, or the court would agree on one for them.

Dennis Rodman faces jail time in child support case

Dennis Rodman’s ex-wife has taken him to court in order to redeem overdue child support payments. According to her, Rodman owes approximately $860,000 in child support and spousal support payments.

In 2010, Rodman was ordered to pay $50,000 a month in child support for two of his children. That amount has since been cut to $4,500, but the former professional basketball player is not earning as lucrative an income as he was while in the NBA.

Rodman’s lawyers have stated that he is currently paying as much as he can in regards to child support, and does not owe as much as his ex-wife is claiming. Rodman also has another child that he also supports through monthly checks.

California mothers find it difficult to collect child support from Native American fathers

Posted on August 26th, 2011 No Comments

Mothers in California have found it difficult to collect child support money that they are owed from Native American fathers because the tribal governments do not enforce the court-ordered payments.

It is currently unknown at this time time how many tribal governments do not honor child support payments, but many of them do not garnish payments of delinquent parents. A chief judge for the Hoopa Valley Tribe stated that 20 of the 103 tribes that are recognized by California have enforcement polices for parents in order for them to pay their child support.

The judge also stated that so few force the issue because Native Americans are taught to care for their children and elders so it does not have to be forced for them to pay. He stated that the parents who do not pay, know that their children deserve better and in order to take care of children, they need financial support.

Child support is a large factor in a divorce if the couple has children. If you live in California and are considering a divorce, here is the basic information to know about child support requirements in the state for noncustodial parents, or the parent that the child does not live with.

The Child Support Program is for both parents, but the requirements are different if the parent is noncustodial. NCPs must pay the court ordered amount of child support in full and on time. If they cannot pay on time, there will be interest added to the amount.

NCPs are allowed to ask that child support payments be modified if they have trouble paying the full amount that has already been ordered. Multiple factors goes into the amount of child support that a parent must pay.

Jermaine Jackson unable to make monthly $3,000 child support payments

The Los Angeles County Child Support Services Department recently confiscated Jermaine Jackson’s driver’s license after he failed to pay $91,921.55 in child support to his two sons, Jaafar and Jermajesty.  Jackson, 56, was a member of The Jackson 5 and is the older brother of Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson.

According to court documents, Jackson has asked the judge to modify his child support agreement.  Currently, Jackson earns a monthly income of $1,448 and is being asked to pay $3,000 in child support every month.  Jackson believes that his ex-wife, Alejandra Jackson, should be paying more than him because she has a higher monthly income.
