The state of California uses statutorily defined child support guidelines to calculate the amount of child support each parent is obligated to pay. Generally, a child is entitled to support from their parents until they the age of majority. Given discretion to deviate from the guidelines, the court may alter the amount of support depending on the special needs of the child, the parents having a substantial amount of non-income producing assets, or for other reasons involving the child’s best interests. Parties may also stipulate to the amount of child support each party is obligated to pay to avoid any further litigation costs.

San Jose Spousal Support
